Liverpool & the North West · Family-run since 1986
Clear water, healthy fish, ponds and tanks that actually get looked after.
Bespoke aquarium and pond installations, backed by ongoing care that keeps them thriving — not just fixed when something goes wrong.
What We Do
Aquariums first. Ponds too.

Aquarium Installation & Maintenance
This is what we do most. Bespoke freshwater and marine setups, built to fit the room and the fish you actually want to keep — then kept running properly, week after week.
Freshwater
Planted community tanks, biotopes and aquascapes — filtration and planting matched to the fish, not the other way round.
Marine
Reef and fish-only systems set up correctly from day one — the mistakes that sink most marine tanks happen in the first month.
Ongoing maintenance
Water testing, water changes, filter servicing, algae control and livestock checks — weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

Pond Maintenance & Installation
New ponds dug and lined properly, and existing ponds brought back from green water, blanket weed and tired pumps. Filtration sized correctly for the pond, not guessed at — that's usually where things go wrong.
- — New builds, liners and pre-formed ponds
- — Pump, filter and UV clarifier servicing
- — Seasonal clean-outs and blanket weed control
- — Fish health checks and stocking advice
Recent Work
Gallery
Living room install — cabinet levelled, external filter plumbed in and cycled before any fish went near it. Planted freshwater aquascape on a fortnightly visit — trimmed back, CO2 checked, water tested. Marine reef system. Skimmer serviced monthly, salinity and alkalinity logged every visit. Cottage garden pond brought back from green water — filter resized and UV clarifier replaced. Community tank stocked slowly over three months so the filter could keep pace. Seasonal pond clean-out: pump stripped and rinsed, baskets cleared, blanket weed pulled by hand.

About Us
Two trades, one standard of care
Lotus is the current name on a family trade that's been running in Liverpool since 1986 — ponds and aquariums, across the North West, through four decades and a few different signs above the door. The work hasn't changed much: water chemistry, filtration, and livestock health are the same problem in a different container, and neither one gets solved by guesswork.
We still visit every job ourselves. No call centre, no rotating techs — the person who quotes the job is the person who does it, and comes back for it.

How It Works
What to expect when you call
- 01
You get in touch
Call, email or use the form. Tell us roughly what you have — tank size, pond age, what's going wrong, or that you're starting from nothing.
- 02
We come and look
A visit to see the space and the water in person. Photos only tell you so much. There's no charge for this and no obligation afterwards.
- 03
You get a written quote
Itemised, with what's included and what isn't. If we think a cheaper approach would work just as well, we'll say so.
- 04
The work happens
Installs are booked for a date that suits you. Maintenance runs on a set schedule — weekly, fortnightly or monthly — with the same person each visit.

Questions
The things people ask first
How often does a tank or pond need a maintenance visit?
Most aquariums settle into a fortnightly rhythm. Heavily stocked or marine systems usually want weekly; a mature, lightly stocked planted tank can be fine monthly. Ponds are seasonal — more attention in spring and autumn, less in the middle of winter. We'll suggest a schedule after seeing it, and change it if it turns out to be wrong.
What actually happens on a maintenance visit?
Water tested and logged, a partial water change, filter media rinsed or replaced as needed, glass and decor cleaned, algae managed, equipment checked, and every fish looked over. You get told what we found — including anything we're keeping an eye on.
How long does a new installation take?
A straightforward freshwater tank is usually a single day to install, then four to six weeks of cycling before it's fully stocked — we handle that phase for you. Marine systems take longer to mature. A new pond depends on size and access, but most garden ponds are a two to four day build.
Do you travel outside the North West?
Yes. We're based in Liverpool and most work is within an hour or so, but we'll travel further for a project worth doing — installs especially. Get in touch wherever you are and we'll tell you honestly whether it makes sense.
Are you insured?
Yes — we carry public liability insurance, and we're happy to send the certificate over before any work starts. Just ask.
What does it cost?
It depends on the system and how often you want us. Rather than quote a misleading headline figure, we'll look at what you have and put a price in writing. Call 07518 464269 for a rough steer over the phone.

Based in Liverpool. Working wherever the project takes us.
